End of Summer DIY Cape Cod Tie-Dye Party

This past Friday, the Cape Cod Choker’s crew threw a Tie-Dye party! All of us had such a blast and are here to give you ideas for you and your friends! Here is a look at our tie-dye fun!

Tie-Dye Pancakes

Whip up your favorite pancake mix and split it amongst 6 bowls. Then add food coloring to make fun vibrant colors. Using a spoon, carefully add a little bit of each color to the pan and used a toothpick to swirl the colors! This is a super fun and easy way to spice up pancakes for a party!

We then of course had to tie-dye clothing! Below are a few of the methods we used and loved! Before you begin make sure you run your items under cold water and wring them out so they’re damp.

Tie Dye Methods

Spiral Lay the fabric out, pinch the center and then twist! Twist until all the fabric is wrapped into a spiral shape. Next, wrap 3 elastics around the fabric, creating 6 wedges (sections). Now for the fun part, add the tie-dye colors to both sides of the fabric!

Crumple Start again by laying the clothing item out. Then, starting from the center, simply scrunch the fabric together. Repeat until the whole piece is bunched together. Wrap a few rubber bands around the fabric to secure the shape. Now, apply your desired dyes to the fabric!

Ice Dye Begin with the crumple method! Before adding the tie dye, set up a rack over a sink or other place that can collect the tie dye that drips down. Place the fabric on the rack and cover it in ice cubes. Sprinkle the dye powder onto the ice! Now let the ice do the magic! As the ice melts it will mix and transfer the colors to the fabric!

Once you have finished tie-dying place your pieces into plastic bags. Let the fabric sit for 8 to 10 hours before rinsing. Toss each piece in the wash individually, and then they are ready to wear!

Tie-Dye isn’t meant to be perfect, just have fun with it! Be sure to share your tie-dye results with the Cape Cod Chokers crew!
