A Love Letter To The Ocean

A Love Letter To The Ocean

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever”

— Jaques Cousteau

There is something so undeniably magical about the ocean. Standing on the warm sands, your feet being gently lapped by ultramarine waves, the golden sun kissing your skin, the wind making the tendrils of your hair dance with each and every salty breeze.

Living anywhere on Cape Cod means the beach is always within reach. Whether by car, bike, bus, or foot, the water is never far. Sometimes I stop and realize just how lucky I am to be so close to something that people travel from around the world to see.

Have you ever thrown a towel, hat, sunscreen, and a swimsuit in a bag, and hopped in the car for a trip? Have you ever packed a picnic lunch, and enjoyed it by the waves? Have you ever walked along the spot where sand meets surf, and let the waves brush your feet? Or maybe you were on your way to the store, and stopped to see the sunset? Maybe you slowed down while riding along a road with a perfect ocean view? Maybe you visited at night, just to gaze at the constellations of twinkling stars? Whatever your story, whatever your experience, we have all been there. The ocean unites, it captivates, it enchants.

The ocean is for everyone: it holds no proclivity. No matter your background or who you are, the ocean discriminates not. It will wrap you up in its powerful sapphire waves, swirling from your toes all the way past the crown of your head, and envelop you in its ripples. It will erase all your worries and woes, calm your anxieties, heal your wounds, and transform you into a new being.

Sometimes I can’t imagine how Mother Nature could create something so breathtaking.

A Love Letter To The Ocean: a letter to something so beautiful it doesn’t seem real. A love letter to where some of my favorite memories took place, where I go when I’m blue, where I go to let the sun’s rays kiss my skin, where I can forget everything but the beauty in front of me.

Take a moment this summer and think of your love letter to the ocean. What makes it special to you? What memories have you created in its presence? What joy has it brought you? Take those memories, those emotions, those thoughts, and collect them somewhere safe. A small place in the back of your mind you can visit when you need an escape. Create your own love letter and store it away.

Then, no matter where you travel, the ocean and its magic will always be with you.
