My Beach Trunk

My Beach Trunk

Here is my list of trunk essentials that I never take out of my SUV. You never know when the beach will call you. Here is how to be ready to answer that call any time.

I love beach gear. And all the better if I can hook beach bags on my shoulders and my chair on my back (my chair has backpack straps) to make one trip from my car to the sand.

  • Towels. I always keep my microfiber towel in my truck. it is light and water-absorbent

  • Beach blanket. It may seem redundant to bring a blanket if you bring a few towels, but it’s not. A blanket provides a wide and clean surface, at least until it gets sandy. My favorite is Gunn and Swain.

  • Beach chairs. Actually, I keep my beach chair in my car year-round. You never know when you might need a portable chair. My Cape Cod Beach chair has my logo embroidered on it.

  • Yeti Cooler. Lightweight but still loaded with high-performance insulation features, Yeti soft coolers are great for on the go.

  • Hat and sunglasses. I keep spare sunglasses in my car’s console. These are important even if you aren’t planning a day at the beach.

  • A hoodie. On a hot summer day, it’s easy to forget that the beach may be windy and that temperatures drop in the evening. I always have a hoodie or two in my trunk.

  • Change of clothing. Again, you never know. Maybe dinner out sounds good after swimming and sunning. And personally, I don’t like driving home in a wet bathing suit.

  • Beach bag. This is where I keep the extra bathing suits, rainbow flip flops, sunscreen, chapstick, Yeti tumblers, and an extra trash bag.

  • Beach Bub Umbrella. This is the number one umbrella. That is my opinion. It can withstand winds up to 35 miles per hour and is easy to put up. A beach umbrella provides shade, lowers ambient temperatures, and blocks UV rays.

  • Pet gear. We always pack a collapsible water bowl, bottled water, and treats.

  • Baby Powder. This is my favorite hack. Baby powder, or talcum powder, is one of the best ways to remove stubborn sand from in-between your toes, and other areas of the body. Simply air dry a bit after getting out of the water then vigorously apply baby powder to any area where sand is still sticking before getting into the car.

  • Cash. Keep a little cash in the console or glove compartment. Beach food vendors and parking lots don’t always take credit cards.
